Park Hill School District

Parents should always have a role in their children’s education – make your voice heard!

The Park Hill School District will hold an election for two School Board seats on April 5, 2022. Ten candidates will appear on the ballot for two seats. Voters will be able to select two candidates on their ballot.

Thompson believes “the most pressing issue is keeping schools in person” and “gaps in learning that may have occurred during this two-year-long pandemic will need to be addressed.”

Thompson has voted in several Republican primary elections and has donated to the Missouri Republican State Committee.

Thompson wants to “help ensure we have the best teachers and that they have the tools that are needed to do their job well” and “good quality teachers are important to have a successful school district and cultivating young minds to learn.”

Terwilleger does not support the Parents’ Bill of Rights legislation. 

Terwilleger referred to concerns that Park Hill Schools are teaching Critical Race Theory as “misinformation.”

After Park Hill was sued by the Missouri Attorney General for its masking and Covid policies, Terwilleger called the move “disheartening.” 

Terwilleger has made multiple donations to ActBlue, a fundraising platform for Democratic candidates up and down the ballot, progressive organizations, and nonprofits. 

Terwilleger promises to promote safety and diversity, noting, “Recently, we have seen safety threats in many areas: COVID, racism, bigotry, bullying, threats of gun violence, attempts at partisan censorship, and cyberattacks.”

Terwilleger is endorsed by the Park Hill National Education Association, a local chapter of a national union.

Daryl Terwilleger is a stay-at-home dad with a background in technology and business. He is active in the PTA and other school-related extracurricular activities.

Terrell is running for school board to “reign in the governmental overreach hindering our parents’ rights and raise the district’s achievement standards to create a lasting and effective path to success for our students.”

Terell calls himself “conservative-minded.”

Terell does not think Critical Race Theory has a place in schools and supports a Parents’ Bill of Rights. 

Terell does not support mask mandates.

Terell has voted in a Republican primary election and has not made any political donations.

Terell shared a story which claims that covid vaccines are “maiming, killing young people in alarming numbers.”

Cory Terrell is a father, real estate agent, and Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent. 

Barnes has supported mask mandates. 

Barnes has spoken out against both HB-1474 and HB-1995, also known as the “Parents’ Bill of Rights.”

Barnes is endorsed by Standing Up for Racial Justice – Kansas City, the Park Hill National Education Association, a local chapter of a national union, and has been rated a “pro-equity” candidate by the Missouri Equity Education Partnership.”

Barnes says the key issues of her campaign are “responsible & equitable infrastructure, leadership & discipline transparency, students prepared for life, and diverse teachers & curriculum.”

Barnes is a mother of two and is a supervisor for three Urgent Care clinic locations. 

The primary pillar of Johnson’s campaign is inclusion, noting “there is work to be done to foster an environment of inclusion for everyone struggling with racial, socio-economic and / or disability-related obstacles.”

Johnson has pointed to bullying being a problem in school and a need to focus more resources on mental health.

Runyan describes himself as conservative and is running to “remove politics and blind obedience to the cult of modern media from our district.” 

Runyan believes “the Board needs to recognize the right of parents to be heard and to once again be in their children’s schools and involved in all they do.” 

Runyan has voted in several Republican Primary elections and has not made any political contributions.
